Gonda: In a humanitarian initiative aimed at ensuring timely access to welfare schemes, District Magistrate Priyanka Niranjan provided immediate relief to a critically ill woman during the Janata Darshan programme held at the Collectorate on Friday. The intervention enabled the woman to receive an Antyodaya ration card on the spot, paving the way for her to avail benefits under the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme.
The beneficiary, Jyotiraj, wife of Phool Chandra Chaudhary and a resident of Bhulaidih village in Rupaideeh block, informed the District Magistrate that both her kidneys had failed. She said she required regular dialysis and expensive medication, but her family’s poor financial condition had made it increasingly difficult to continue treatment. She also explained that she lacked the necessary documentation to access government healthcare benefits.
Taking immediate cognisance of the matter, the District Magistrate directed the District Supply Officer to issue an Antyodaya ration card without delay. Acting on the instructions, the Food and Civil Supplies Department completed the formalities during the public hearing itself and handed over the card to the beneficiary.
Officials stated that with the issuance of the Antyodaya ration card, the woman would now be eligible to obtain an Ayushman Bharat card, enabling her to receive cashless treatment at empanelled hospitals. The move is expected to significantly reduce the financial burden of her dialysis and other medical expenses.
Emphasising the importance of responsive governance, the District Magistrate instructed all district officials to ensure that grievances presented during Janata Darshan are resolved promptly, transparently and with sensitivity. She stressed that every eligible and deserving citizen should receive the benefits of government welfare schemes in a timely manner, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to citizen-centric governance and inclusive public service delivery.
